Healthy Diet = Healthy Teeth

Healthy eating habits lead to healthy teeth. Like the rest of your body, your teeth, bones and gums need a well-balanced diet. Children should eat a variety of foods from the five major food groups.

"Snack and sip all day? Risk decay!" Many snacks and sugary drinks can lead to cavity formation. The more frequently a child snacks, the greater the chance for tooth decay. The length of time food remains in your mouth also plays a role. For example, hard candy and lollipops stay in your mouth a longer period of time, causing longer acid attacks on tooth enamel, resulting in more cavities. If your child must snack, choose nutritious foods such as vegetables, low-fat yogurt, and low-fat cheese. If you do drink something sweet, try and rinse your mouth with water afterward. Don’t put your smile at risk by choosing sugary foods and beverages.
